This week we are celebrating SC's first birthday with a bunch of challenges, prizes and a blog hop! And so, if you just stopped in and don't know where to start: you start @ Pamela's Blog. From there will be directions on where to go and what to do to get involved! So much fun, right? THEN you should come on by Scrapbook Challenges and play along!

Now here is the official sketch for the blog hop: (ta da!)

and here is my LO based on that sketch:

(this is myself on my 24th birthday, in 2007. My husband was overseas for the army but he sent me these beautiful gifts from Iraq.)

C25k

I've decided to start the Couch to 5k Running Plan today. I've been trying to get into running for months now - and I seem to do too much too quickly and burn myself out.. then I don't run for weeks and have to start all over again. This C25k plan seems to start off slowly and work into running a 5k (or 3 miles) in 9 weeks; little at a time. So today I'll start Week 1 - Day 1. Wish me luck!! :)

My first challenge.

Yesterday marked the day of my very first design-team-issued-challenge for Scrapbook Challenges. I signed up for the Technique Challenge knowing exactly what I was going to issue - I actually made my example for it weeks ago! My challenge for the month is to create a layout using ONLY SOLID paper, doodles, photo(s) and your creativity. Absolutely NO alphas, embellishments, rub-ons, stickers or patterned paper. I'm hoping this steps people out of their comfort zones.. maybe they'll love it and find a new technique to use. That's the point in challenges, right? So, please, come over to SC and join in my challenge. The direct link to the thread is here. Here is the example I created for this challenge: (and the two after are alike pages I've done in the past) Hope to see you there & happy scrapping :)

Out of my comfort zone

My husband, myself and our neighbor friends (Eric & Megan) visited Hershey Park in Hershey, Pennsylvania this past Saturday. We had a blast, rode all the roller coasters they had, ate some chocolate, took the factory tour, ate tons of theme-park food AND we did one of those old-western theme photo portraits. I've always wanted to get one of those done!

I couldn't believe they were charging over $40 for one photo.. but of course, we split the cost, brought it home and I made tons of copies on my computer. Who wouldn't?

I was thrilled to scrapbook this photo - but this was going to be WAY out of my comfort zone - I'm more of a simple/sketchy/white space/bright colors type of scrapper. My normal themes weren't going to fly with this photo. I drove 45 minutes to the craft store this afternoon and picked up some Tim Holtz things, some rustic papers, wooden star buttons, rose stickers, leather and a roll of string that looks a little like rope. Of course, since I'm not used to scrapbooking with such detail, this one page took me HOURS. It's not exactly how I envisioned it - but in all honesty, I'm pretty happy with it considering this isn't my usual theme for scrapbooking. So, here's my page:

Happy Scrapping, friends. :)

The return of the eyelet.

Honestly, I forgot about them. They sit in a little plastic container on the 3rd shelf in front of my scrapbook desk. I haven't used them in years, probably. Well I pulled them out tonight along with my silent setter and added not one - but two - to the page I was creating. I took this photo of my husband back in 2007 when we lived on Fort Lewis. The photo reminds me of a 50's badass; like on Grease or something. I tried to bring the 50's look into the page by adding the record. Since it was solid black, it looked like a big black circle to me - so I added the stitching to bring out the fact that it was a record. Then thought silver accents would kick up the badass-ness that I was going for. I added the title (title credit to Dane Cook) and thought eyelets would really tie everything together. It's an extremely simple page but I'm pretty happy with the way it came out. Guy-themed layouts can be pretty difficult - they really don't make enough guy-ish paper; but man-layouts usually tend to be some of my favorites. :)

Whats in a name?

My name: Hollilee
My husband's name: Peter Michael
My dog's name: Brian
My cat's name: Prince Turd Ferguson

We all have stories behind our names; even if they are regular names like my husband's, odd names like mine, people names for animals like my dog's or just silly names like my cat's. I never thought of scrapbooking that until Shannon posted her Whats in a Name Challenge on Scrapbook Challenges. Immediately, I know what I was going to do, just had to put it together. My friend, Megan came over to scrapbook with me yesterday and I got started right away. I took photos of myself, my husband and our animals; I tried to get the photos of all of us looking off to the side (which is quite a task with the animals) to make a "Brady Bunch" type of layout; you remember, right? During the end song after the show, they always had a grid with everyone's faces, looking around at eachother? Well, I attempted that in my layout. I tried to make it as fun as possible, of course picking out the paper to use is always the hardest part for me. After that, it all came together nicely and I love it! So without further ado:

So now I challenge you to come visit Scrapbook Challenges and try out Shannon's Whats in a Name challenge and/or one of the many other fantastic challenges there. :)

Seasons of Change Blog Hop.

Welcome to my first post on my first blog. I feel entirely confused, haha. Well, I'm Holli; an avid scrapbooker for 5 years, ironically, married for 5 years as well. I'm currently a misplaced Mainer (or Maineah, if you're from there) - living in south-west Pennsylvania; my husband goes to school here and we can't wait to leave. I don't know where we'll live next (we lived in Tennesee and Washington state before this) but I know we will retire back to New England when the time comes.

I'm opening my blog with the *big news* that I made design team for Scrapbook Challenges! As a new member, I'm trying out something new for the group: a blog hop. So, of course, I had to give into the wonderful world of blogging. :) If you've never heard of Scrapbook Challenges - it's an amazing Scrapbooking group, actually, the only one I've been faithful to for years now. They used to be on Myspace but luckily, the awesome creator, Pamela, decided to make her own site and they've been soaring since. They feature tons of mothly sketches and challeges, along with prizes and everyone is invited to participate. I've met lots of scrappy friends on there and have become a better scrapbooker because of the challenges.

So, onto the "Seasons of Change" Labor Day Weekend Blog Hop:
If you just stopped in and don't know where to start: you start @ Pamela's Blog. From there will be directions on where to go and what to do to get involved! So much fun, right?

and here is my LO based on that sketch:
(this is my husband, a few weeks ago when he earned his first college degree! he didn't want to attend graduation, even though I protested - so our happy medium was this photo I made him take.)

& of course, there are always prizes involed when it comes to SC.
